From The House of Broel Collection
This item has been on display in the world renowned House of Broel Dollhouse Museum that is a wonderland of intricate treasures that have to be seen to be believed. It is a very fine piece that is in mint condition because after its creation it has only been on display and never handled.
I bought this house from a handicapped man who needed to supplement his income and I thought I could make a cute farm house out of it. Well, I couldn’t do anything as ordinary as that so I did a tack shop on the first floor. In the workshop on the left hand side I put a horse mannequin and outfitted him with all the appropriate items. I added a display case, an oak sewing machine and chair by Zack Fox and had a cowboy checking out a display saddle. I put another display cabinet in the center hall and in the room on the right the proprietor has a work table, a turning bookcase and a magnificent Wells Fargo desk with all of its many compartments. It is one of my favorite pieces from all of my collection.
Originally that was the theme – tack shop on the first floor with the family living upstairs.
That was fine but rather boring so when I attended our New Orleans yearly miniature show that had a Western theme I purchased the cowboy with his hat on in the metal tub who ended up on the right hand side of the third floor. It was the perfect inspiration for me to turn my farm house into a Western bordello. I asked the artist who had madethe cowboy in the metal tub if she would create another one for me in my oak Zack Fox bathtub and she outdid herself – the guy even looks like Burt Reynolds. This was the perfect piece for the middle room on the third floor. So with another cowboy and a gal drinking champagne in her dressing gown in the left hand room my third floor was complete.
On the second floor the dining room has a fantastic oak table that opens up so that utensils can be stored in the middle. There are four matching chairs and a sideboard all done by artist Zack Fox. A lady of the evening is in the center hall wearing lingerie and in the room on the left - my very favorite, the doll lying on the bed wrapped in fur in a most tantalizing pose and the cowboy with an eager look on his f ace. I couldn’t believe that I found the lady at a miniature show – she is so perfect. In order for my house to be complete, I felt I needed a sheriff and finally one day I found him. At the same time I found the sheriff I found the Indian squaw and children – I fell in love with them and added them to the center hall for character and color.
I hope you enjoy my version of “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and want to add it to your collection.
